Thursday, June 18th

Reception; 6:00 - 6:30 pm

Program; 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Featuring: Dr. Mark Alan Hughes, Director of Sustainability and Chief Policy Advisor to Mayor Nutter, The City of Philadelphia

After much anticipation, the Mayor's Office of Sustainability released Greenworks Philadelphia in April, 2009 -- the city's first comprehensive sustainability plan.

June's Urban Sustainability Forum will take an in-depth look at the framework for Greenworks. The plan consists of 5 goals, 15 targets and over 100 initiatives to guide Philadelphia to become the greenest city in the country.

Implementers from city agencies will delve in to the initiatives, will describe current efforts that are being made, and will outline what role the public can play to achieve common goals.

The goals of the Center for Environmental Policy (CEP) at The Academy of Natural Sciences are to evaluate key issues of environmental policy, facilitate dialogues and decision-making on environmental topics, and inform the public from both an academic as well as practical perspective.  The CEP will answer the need for a non-partisan, science-based organization that is capable of accessing and guiding a myriad of public and private stakeholders.
